This month the Air Force Liaison Officer, SQNLDR Doug McLean and I travelled to Mount Isa to attend a public meeting designed to see if there was a possibility we could form a Squadron there in 2009.
The outcome was very positive.
We look like being able to attract enough staff and there is the definite possibility that a premises at Mount Isa airport will be made available to the AAFC as a SQNHQ. The number of potential cadets present at the meeting also indicated that support from the youth of the Isa would be there as well.
FLGOFF(AAFC) Barry Jongkryg has been stationed in Mount Isa for the most of this year and has been instrumental in getting the first steps done to raise a AAFC Squadron there.
So all going well we could have another 1WG Squadron in Mount Isa in 2009.

The Wing Warrant Officer, WOFF(AAFC) Doug Newman has been awarded the Australian Cadet Forces Service Medal (ACFSM) for service to the ADFC. It was my honour to present the ACFSM to WOFF(AAFC) Newman at a special parade at his home Squadron 104 in Cairns Friday 08 Aug 08. WOFF(AAFC) Newman had a career as a cadet before joining as an Instructor in 1992. His rise to one of the 8 positions in the nation as a Wing Warrant Officer is a great achievement.
